Literature review:

Suppose you are writing a thesis/dissertation on management control dynamics of not-for-profit organizations. You intend to use systems theory in general and Simons’ LOC framework in particular as your theoretical framework. Before launching into the empirical analysis, you wish to lay the theoretical foundations in a theory chapter. The aim of this chapter is to outline the theoretical notions which you will use to interpret the empirical data in your empirical chapters later on. You should aim to keep your theory chapter to a maximum of 5,000 words.

You are required to do the necessary literature survey and write this chapter. You should research the academic journal databases for recent management accounting literature which draws on systems theory and, especially, Simons’ LOC framework.
