We have elaborated on a number of key themes associated with control and accountability in NGOs and non-profits ... These comprise the connection between values and beliefs and control and accountability, the link between control, accountability and transformation, and the role of stakeholder engagement in control and accountability processes ... They have enabled us to propose future theoretical and empirical research directions which could enrich our knowledge of how accounting emerges and operates in diverse organizational contexts with significant societal impacts.
