Common morality is founded on the premise that we want to protect both ourselves and those we care about. Cosmopolitanism acts as an ethics of strangers that encourages us to see ourselves as citizens of the world. A global ethic is based on treating people humanely, following the Golden Rule, and seeking peace and justice. The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights establishes that all people regardless of location are granted certain rights by virtue of being human. The Caux principles emphasize working together for the common good and human dignity.
