The Global Carbon Project brings together the international science community to “establish a common and mutually agreed knowledge base to support policy debate and action to slow down and ultimately stop the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.” Go to their website, Global Carbon Atlas, www.globalcarbonatlas.org and find the data map by selecting the tab “CO2 Emissions” on the top of the page.

The default map will present MtCO2 (metric tons of CO2)

by country. What countries produced the most carbon emissions? What do you notice about the high-carbon-emitting countries? Next, in the left-hand tool bar, change the units to tCO2 (total CO2) per person. What do you notice about the disparity across countries? What happened with the high-emitting countries you identified previously?
