Do you agree with Wasserstrom that there is nothing inconsistent about programs of preferential treatment?

Are there important, morally relevant differences between the discrimination that African Americans have suffered historically and preferential treatment on ground of race today? What point does Wasserstrom make about the wrongness of slavery?
