-2n Arctan = 43,7 11 12/2 4n Adapted from "Angles of Elevation of the Pyramids of Egypt," in The Mathematics Teacher, February 1982, pp. 124-127. The angle of elevation for a pyramid is the angle between the edge of the base and the slant height, the line from the apex of the pyramid to the midpoint of any side of the base. It is the maximum possible ascent for anyone trying to climb the pyramid to the top. In an article, "Angles of Elevation of the Pyramids of Egypt," in The Mathematics Teacher (February 1982, pp. 124-127), author Arthur F. Smith notes that the angle of elevation of these pyramids is either about 44 or 52. Why did the Egyptians build the pyramids using these angles of elevation? (See Individual Research Project 7.5, p. 380.)
