Juniper Networks is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Sunnyvale, California that develops and markets networking products. Its products include routers, switches, network management software, network security products and software-defined networking technology. Company competes with Cisco, Ciena and Hewlett-Packard, among others. The NYSE-listed company has invested \($1\) billion in India in the past six years, mostly on research and development, and has about 2,600 workers in the country across locations including Bengaluru and Delhi. Juniper Networks is planning to invest \($1\) billion more in the Indian operations to tap into the opportunities which will arise from India’s digital transformation led by cloud-based services. To take the country as large as India to a cashless economy with new services and applications, the demand for connectivity, scale and performance, and security of the infrastructure increases and that indirectly results in the opportunity for Juniper Networks. Ongoing schemes such as digitization and ubiquitous digital infrastructure for every citizen are exciting initiatives in which the company can contribute immensely, and that’s why India has been a very big focus for the US multinational market. Juniper anticipates that by 2020 about 700 million people in India will be connected to the internet, with mobile devices as key growth driver, representing a business opportunity for the company. With 300–350 million internet users, according to industry estimates, India is the second largest internet community in the world, with 27% penetration compared to 50.3% in China. Juniper expects to grow India operations faster with the new investment and it is banking on talent acquisition to aid product innovation. The company feels that the talent here (India) is second to none. Company depends on the teams here to develop some of the most complex software systems. Asia, including India, accounts for nearly 15% of
the company’s business worldwide while India’s human resources, primarily engineering workforce, comprises almost 40% of its global talent pool.
