The effects of age, period, and cohorts can be divided further into contemporaneous effects, which pertain to the impact of conditions on an organization at a given point in time, and imprinted effects, which pertain to the impact of conditions on an organization from a given point in time and onward. Thus, a contemporaneous cohort effect from the Civil Rights Act may have had a disproportionate influence on newly founded organizations during the mid-1960s, while an imprinted cohort effect would have continued to influence those same organizations during the following decades.
