Your boss has purchased a new AC power source to run a high-voltage, low-current display, but it is not working. While he is fuming, you look at the owner's manual and discover that this power source produces only half the peak potential difference needed to operate the display. Because you are pretty sure you have a transformer on your workbench that will solve the problem, you tell your boss that you can fix it. When you return to your workbench, you are horrified to discover that the other members of your team have scavenged not only the transformer but most of your other supplies as well! Ignoring hookup wire and solder, you have only two identical capacitors and two identical diodes at your disposal. You collapse onto your lab stool and start thinking about how to word your apology to the boss, when suddenly you realize you can solve the problem after all!
