EXAMPLE 5.1 Based on the stress-strain data for a 3501-5 epoxy matrix material in Figure 5.2, determine the reduction in the Young's modulus, Em, as the hygrothermal conditions change from room temperature (RT) dry to 300F wet. Similarly, based on the stress-strain data for transverse load- ing of the corresponding AS/3501-5 graphite/epoxy composite in Figure 5.3, determine the reduction in the transverse Young's modulus, E2, for the same change in the hygrothermal conditions, then compare and comment on the reductions in the modulus values for the epoxy matrix and the transverse composite.
