initiatives identified in this chapter. Go to the research literature, or to the What Works Clearinghouse, and find a recent study that evaluates the school reform you chose. Locate at least one primary article research study, either quantitative or qualitative. Do not choose an article that simply talks about the program components or one that is a “war story” that touts the program’s effectiveness by stating how well the authors

“think” it worked in a school or district. Find an article that describes the program’s effectiveness based on dependent variables such as test scores, school climate, and qualitative interviews and observations by researchers. Read it and then summarize its findings in one or two paragraphs. Share your summary with others in your class. Discuss the pros and cons of each of the reform initiatives. Which of these reforms has great promise in helping schools improve?
