2. It seems as though a child moves developmentally from having a task orientation relative to perceived ability to having an ego orientation at about age 12. Yet, a task orientation is often described as being more desirable than an ego orientation in terms of developing self-confidence and experiencing satisfaction and enjoyment in sport. Are we saying that moving backwards developmentally is desirable?
