Refunds on interest paid on loans sometimes given. Many credit union members who have paid interest on loans receive interest refunds at the end of each fiscal year. This occurs if the credit union has surplus earnings and the members or board of directors vote to return some of the earnings in refunds on interest payments. In most cases, such refunds are credited to members’ accounts. Whether or not this is done raises some of the same considerations as dividend distribution. LO.1
