1. Read the account of King Josiah’s reign (2 Kings 22-23) and analyze it in terms of the DH. What DH themes do you see in this passage? What’s the significance of Josiah’s reform in light of the DH?

2. Write a brief essay about “history” in the Bible. Think broadly about primeval history, the history of the ancestors in the Torah, and the history of the nation of Israel in the historical and prophetic books: how does the discussion of history in the Ancient Near East give you a better understanding of this material? What are the problems/issues involved in reading these books as history? Can we trust these documents as “historical” sources?

3. Of all the genres of literature we have covered (primeval history, Torah, history, prophets, wisdom, poetry), which one have you found the most interesting and why? What, specifically, have you learned about this genre that you found useful? How has it helped you understand what the Bible is? Give at least one specific example of a biblical text from this genre that you understand better now.
