1. Think about an interpersonal conflict that you have with one other person who is important to you. This person may be a friend, family member, fellow student or coworker, etc.
2. Meet with the other person before writing your description of the conflict to better understands his/her perspective. Then, write a draft paper, describing the issue from the other person’s point of view. Identify this section of your paper using the person’s first name or an alias.
For example, let’s say you have a conflict with your friend Eli. You would ask Eli about his perspective of the conflict and then write and describe the conflict from his perspective as if you are Eli. Also, keep in mind that the conflict must be between you and another person; not about a conflict between two of your friends.
3. Show your completed draft to the other person to verify its accuracy. Based on the comments you receive, you may need to revise your description. Keep revising your draft until the other person is willing to okay it.
4. After you have described the conflict, define self-concept and discuss the ways in which yourself-concept is affecting the issue.
5. Next, define self-fulfilling prophecy, and its impact on the issue.
6. Then, add a summary to your paper describing the following aspects of the issue:
a) There are understandable reasons for the behavior of both parties in the issue;
b) Both parties have engaged in at least some wrong thinking and behavior with regard to this issue;
c) Describe at least one way in which the issue may be seen as less important than the parties have perceived it to be.
7. Your paper should have 5sections:
i. an Introduction
ii. Description of the Issue from Other’s Perspective
iii. Definitions and impacts of Self-Concept and Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
iv. Summary
v. A Conclusion
