For a continuous fiber composite composed of 50 vol. % fiber, use the provided data to answer the following questions. Fiber: Ell = 220 GPa,

For a continuous fiber composite composed of 50 vol. % fiber, use the provided data to answer the following questions. Fiber: Ell = 220 GPa, En = 14 GPa and E„,= 4.0 GPa.

a). If a 40,000 N load is applied in the longitudinal direction of the fiber composite for a specimen of uniform cross section, estimate what percentage of the load is carried by the fiber. (Assume the load is within the L-E region of the composite.)

b). If the composite ply were poorly generated resulting in little or no bonding between the matrix and reinforcing fiber, estimate (without calculation) what percentage of the load would is carried by the fiber in the longitudinal direction and briefly explain your reasoning.

c). Calculate the modulus ratio (E 1 /E 2 ) for the composite ply.
