Hawkeye is the owner of a medium sized hotel on the seafront called ‘The Mermaid’. Whilst very busy in the summer months, winter trade is slow and Hawkeye decides to promote the Mermaid as a venue for conventions and trade conferences. Hawkeye is successful in securing a convention supported by Fox Studios for fans of the television show ‘The Simpsons’. Fans are offered two night’s accommodation, and two days of presentations by various speakers, competitions, merchandise stalls and the continuous showing of the Simpson cartoons. Hawkeye has a stage specially constructed by two of his employees to be used during the convention.

Radar and Klinger are great fans of the Simpsons, and arrive as guests of the hotel to take part in the convention. Radar is thrilled when his name is called out as the winner of a competition and he is invited on to the stage to receive his prize of a life size Homer Simpson statue. Unfortunately, the stage has been poorly constructed and it collapses beneath Radar’s feet, causing him to fall to the floor beneath, breaking both his legs.
