Read “Orders boom for factories boosts hiring in eurozone” and write a summary:
Manufacturing activity in the euro zone reached its highest level in six and a half years last month as factories took on extra staff at a record rate.
The IHS Markit purchasing managers’ index for the bloc rose to 58.1 in September, from 57.4 in August. Readings over 50 indicate growth and September’s was the highest since February 2011.
“The euro zone manufacturing boom kicked into an even higher gear in September,” Chris Williamson, chief business economist at IHS Markit, said. “The recovery is also looking increasingly broad-based, with rising demand across the region lifting all boats.
“Surging order book growth has encouraged manufacturers to take on extra staff at a rate never seen in the 20-year history of the PMI survey.” Barclays’ analysts said the figures were “underpinned by buoyant demand”.
Separate official figures released yesterday show that unemployment rates in the euro zone remained at eight-year lows of 9.1 per cent in August, unchanged from July and down from 9.9 per cent a year earlier?
