Issues in managerial decision making cannot be based on recent information or events. We all rely on information, and techniques or tools to help us in our decision making. Managerial decision making process in business is the regular process of identifying and solving problems, of asking questions and finding answers. Decisions usually are made under conditions of uncertainty. The future is not known and sometimes even the past is suspect. The first step to solve issues in managerial decision making is we must recognize a problem exists. We also must figure out what is the problem and why is it a problem. What is best and how do current operations vary from that ideal. Identify what is going wrong and the causes of why is it going wrong. After the analysis has been finished the next step is to develop alternative solutions to the problem and rank them in order of their net benefits.

Trying to solve a problem in the context in a positive or negative context is another error. Managers had been taught to view conflict as a negative force. However, conflict may actually be either negative or positive. Whereas negative conflict is destructive and leads to decreased productivity, positive conflict may actually encourage greater work effort and help task performance. We have come to recognize and to acknowledge the benefits dealing with conflict affords. Because of our differences, we communicate, we are challenged, and we are driven to find creative solutions to problems. Therefore, it is necessary for managers to interject a minimum level of conflict to maintain an optimal level of organizational performance.

Managers too often copy others choices and try to sell them to employees. Employees may believe the manager is imposing rather than working for everyone’s interests. Managers need to focus on the problems rather than basing a decision on similarity to other situations. Potential advantages of group decision making: is when a greater amounts of information, knowledge, and expertise are available. More action alternatives are considered, increased understanding and acceptance of outcome and increased commitment to implement final plans. Managerial should decide who should be involved in making decisions, estimate the impacts of decision alternatives, and selecting an alternative for operation. An effective decision needs to solve a problem as well as match moral values and help others.
