The I-V characteristics for a diode can be displayed on an oscilloscope using the circuit in Figure 1. Explain in your report how the diode current and voltage are displayed simultaneously on the oscilloscope. If the resistor is 5 ohms and the scopes vertical channel is set for 10 mV/div, what is the equivalent current per division? Figure-1
Set the scope in XY mode, the voltage across the resistor will be displayed in the Y direction. The combined voltage will be displayed in the X direction, but since the voltage across the resistor is much smaller voltage across the resistor is much smaller than the voltage across the diode, the diode voltage will be displayed in the X direction.
