1. (20 points) A liquid storage tank has the transfer function: Qi(s)H(s)=(5s+1)6 where h(t) is the height of liquid in the tank, and qi(t) is the inlet volumetric flowrate. The transfer function is in terms of deviation variables. Process testing in an upstream plant unit will result in oscillations in the process operation such that the inlet flowrate (in deviation variable form) is given by qi(t)=22sin(0.5t)cm3/min. Currently, the liquid level is only 30cm from the top edge of the tank. Will the tank overflow during that test? Provide quantitative proof. [Hint: ignore transients. We are only concerned about longer term dynamics]
