1. (55pts) A mixture that contains 90 wt % water (H2O) and 10 wt % ethanol (C2H5OH) is distilled at P=1atm. The feed enters the distillation column at T=25C at a rate of 1000kg/h. The distillate (overhead product) is essentially pure ethanol and contains 90% of the ethanol in the feed. The vapor effluent from the top of the column enters the condenser at 78.5C and emerges as a liquid at 50C. Half of the condensate is withdrawn as the overhead product, and the remainder is refluxed back to the column. The liquid leaving the bottom of the column goes into a steam-heated reboiler, in which it is partially vaporized. The vapor leaving the reboiler is returned to the column at a temperature of 90C, and the residual liquid, also at 90C, constitutes the bottoms product. A flow chart of the process is shown below. (a) (15 pts) Calculate the following quantities by mass balance. mH2O in the distillate product mH2O in the bottoms product mC2H5OH in the distillate product mC2H5OH in the bottoms product
