a) She does not know whether she is a citizen of either country. How would she find these things out? What is

the likelihood that she is a Canadian or could become one? (5)

b) What are the advantages of being a Canadian citizen? Can she be or become a citizen of both countries? (4)

2. She has some family in Argentina who would like to come to Canada. One is a sister, and another is her

grandmother. Also, there are three second cousins, Jose, Antonio & Marina. The three cousins are slightly

older than Madonna and the two boys, who are brothers, grew up on a cattle ranch in Argentina. Jose, as the

oldest brother, inherited the ranch. He is willing to sell the ranch and start again in Canada. Antonio received

cash as his legacy and is ready to move to Canada. He has a B.A. in international politics and has worked as a

probation officer in Argentina. Marina is a first cousin to Jose & Antonio. She is an artist who has made a good

living that way, but is also licensed in Argentina as a naturopath.

Madonna also has an aunt, Margaret, close to her in age, who has been very active in politics in Argentina.

Margaret has been campaigning for equal treatment under Argentinean law for gays & lesbians. The

organization she works for has had its offices raided several times by the police and Margaret has been

followed for several months by people she believes works for a right-wing political organization that works

with and informs the police. A friend of Margaret, who has lived with her for several years, has disappeared

and cannot be located.

Madonna also has a niece, Dolores, who is 7 years old and is presently staying with Margaret. Dolores' parents

were recently killed in a storm that hit Argentina suddenly and devastated a whole region of the country.

Canada is considering sending relief aid to the region. Margaret has not adopted Dolores yet.
