1. "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:1-4)
Class - I believe the above verse fits well with part of our discussions this week - altruism. While we all want to be admired for the good things that we do, we must remember that trying to overly impress others can lead to pride, an inflated ego and boastfulness. Thoughts?
2. There are many different variations of altruism such as pure, egoistic, reciprocal, and many others. I believe if you are a good and decent human being you will always find the urge to help other or commit selfless acts. An example of this is giving your leftover food to a homeless person after going out to eat with your family. Thoughts?
