It is crucial to refer to empirical studies when you see claims in popular media because popular media tries to grab the reader's attention more than they will provide evidence from a research study. The media article can lead to misunderstanding, while the empirical article has research to support the claims. By using empirical articles, we know that there was a study done or referenced and that we will get the study results within the reading. The concept of psychological studies in the media applies to the programmatic theme of ethics. I chose this programmatic theme because the media tries to prove that they know everything. Whether they have research to back it up, they will always be good at grabbing readers' attention with their big, bold claims and titles. If we as a society understand that they are trying to do, we will be better informed. By finding credible sources and research to back up claims that we see in the media, we can become better informed, and using ethical judgment clearly is very important.
