1. Choose a part of the brain you'd like to study. It can be a specific part or one of the four lobes. If you'd like, you could also choose to study a specific neurotransmitter! (You can find diagrams of the brain in the reading and the PowerPoint! And there's a chart of some neurotransmitters in the PowerPoint). 2. Tell your classmates about one thing this part of the brain or the neurotransmitter does in your own words. You're going to have to do a little research on this one -- outside of the book. Check out sites like Scientific American and Psychology Today for this. You could also check out Encyclopedia Brittanica. B If you'd like to use another site, make sure it's reputable. You can't cite Wikipedia, but you could cite one of the sources listed at the bottom of a Wikipedia article. Make sure to cite the source you are using to explain this. Just drop a link to the page. But make sure you're explaining in your own words! I don't want you to just copy/paste. Citing sources is very, very important! Don't forget to cite a source! 3. Tell your classmates one surprising thing you learned about this part of the brain or neurotransmitter. Listen, I know that there's always a temptation to go very basic with these facts. And when you're busy and taking an online class, I get the pull to write "the coolest thing about serotonin is that it's a neurotransmitter!" I have the same urge whenever I write anything. But I'm grading you on your thoughtfulness. And the brain is so cool. It should be easy to find something truly interesting to share with your classmates. If you're using a different source for this part of the assignment, drop the link in, too! Remember to use your own words! I'm letting everyone see all the posts before they post this week so that not everyone chooses the same brain region or neurotransmitter. Do your best to write about a brain region or neurotransmitter that hasn't been taken by another classmate! Initial discussion posts should be at least 150-200 words and should thoughtfully answer each question! Please make sure to look over the book and PowerPoint to ensure you understand all the terms and check out examples! It's important that you know the main concepts in the text for the quiz and the main concepts in the PowerPoint for the exams!
