Force Field Analysis A Force Field Analysis helps analysts identify and assess all of the forces and factors for and against an outcome and avoid premature or unwarranted focus only on one side of the analysis. It is particularly helpful at the beginning of a project or investigation as a tool to sort and consider all evidence as an evidentiary base is amassed. Furthermore, the weighting mechanism allows analysts to more easily identify the strongest and weakest forces or factors and recommend strategies to reduce or strengthen the effect of forces that support or work toward a given outcome. In this case, investigators amassed a long list of counts against Wen Ho Lee, but Lee pled guilty to—and was convicted of—only one relatively minor count of mishandling a controlled document.
