1. For each of the following research situations, propose a sampling plan (Steps 1-3 mentioned in Week 6 lecture slides). (Hint: Think of the appropriate probability or non- probability sampling techniques appropriate for each scenario). Sample sizes are already provided. Provide a brief explanation for why the proposed sampling plan is appropriate. a. Dainty Sichuan is one of the leading upscale Asian restaurant chain companies in Melbourne and operates 6 restaurants in the Melbourne area (https://daintysichuanfood.com.au/). Given the explosive growth of Melbourne's population, Dainty Sichuan's owner, Tina Li, is planning to conduct a descriptive research design (survey questionnaire) to understand the satisfaction of its customers in Melbourne. Tina has hired a marketing research firm to create the survey. The firm conducts initial qualitative research using focus groups and identify key restaurant components to focus on - menu characteristics, restaurant service quality, socio- demographics, and customer psychographics. Tina seeks to understand how each of these components could affect customer satisfaction. Ms. Li wants to distribute this survey to 500 people. As part of the marketing research team, your task is to design the sampling plan for this survey. Assume that each of the 6 Dainty Sichuan restaurants receives on average 20 customer visits per hour (per restaurant) between 11 AM and 11 PM. For this part, propose the following - (9 points) Target population (hint: think about which geographies/cities would be relevant) Sampling frame (list or set of instructions) Survey method Sampling technique Justification for sample representativeness i. ii. iii. iv. v. 2. Monash university wants to learn about its students' attitudes towards the e-learning platform Moodle. The marketing research company commissioned to conduct the research opts to use the survey method for their main data collection. The sampling technique they use is cluster sampling: each facultybusiness and economics, medicine, law, engineering and etcis treated as a cluster. The faculty of Arts and the faculty of Business and Economics are randomly selected as the clusters to be surveyed. From each cluster, the researchers draw a random sample of students to be invited to participate in the survey. Please briefly comment on the sampling technique used. Is it appropriate? If yes, explain why. If not, what would be an appropriate sampling technique for this scenario? (4 points) 3. You need SPSS for this question. This exercise makes use of the Sustainability survey and dataset. Please only submit relevant SPSS output to answer the questions. Suppose that you have been commissioned by Monash University to draft a brief research report to understand the effectiveness of Monash's communication strategy regarding their environmental sustainability initiatives. Your marketing research team has drafted a survey questionnaire called "Monash University Environmental Sustainability Survey" and collected data from Monash University staff and students. These are available to you as "the Sustainability survey" and "the Sustainability data." on Moodle. a. Using the Sustainability Survey pdf, report the variable name and corresponding measurement scale for survey questions Q25 and Q46 (Hint: Continue survey question numbering after Q45 to cover demographics questions Q46-51). (2 points). b. Open the Sustainability Data in SPSS using Monash MoVE. Create frequency histograms for these 2 variables. Depending on the measurement scale for the above variables, report the appropriate measure of central tendency (provided below) and their interpretation (6 points) - Mean - for interval/ratio scale Median - for ordinal scale Mode - for nominal scale c. Next, we want to test whether the following RQ is true in the population. RQ - Do respondents on average perceive that Monash's communications are very effective (Q25)? (Hint: Consider "4" as neutral). (4 points) For this part, Create the null and alternative hypotheses. Test the hypothesis using the data using SPSS with a one-sample t-test. For this part, include the SPSS output of the relevant test. Report your findings. For this part, report the appropriate p-value and interpret the test results
