Emotions can even have an impact on a person's heart rate. For example, getting excited or scared can increase the heart rate. However, most importantly, regular exercise lowers the heart rate by making heart muscles work more efficiently.

Now, it is time to exercise! Use the table below to record each group member's heartbeat after jogging in place or after doing jumping jacks for one minute. Use your index and middle fingers, as before, on the base of your thumb to find your pulse. Each student must do one minute of exercise. Then, count the number of beats (pulses) for one minute, two minutes, and three minutes after exercising. Start counting right after you have finished exercising and record the results below. After each minute mark, start your count again! Note: You will only exercise once for this lab.
