Upon arrival I made contact with and residents of the aforementioned address, who told me they had just returned home prior to calling and discovered that their house had been burglarized. told me that he and his wife had left home at approximately 1830 hours to visit his father and returned just after 2200 hours. stated that upon returning home they discovered that the window of the back door was shattered and upon entering they observed that the entire house had been ransacked. said that both the front and back doors were locked when they left home that evening. I observed the broken window on the back door which was equipped with both a deadbolt and keyed entry door knob. I did not locate any items in the vicinity of the backdoor that appeared to have been used to break the glass. Upon entry into the back-porch area I observed a DVD player and a set of handheld radios sitting on the floor, which reported had been removed from two other areas of the house. Upon entering the kitchen, I observed that all the cupboards and drawers were standing open. The rest of the rooms of the house were in disarray with every door standing open, every drawer pulled out and dumped, with Screenshot s scattered on the floor. and attention their entertainme enter in the living their television had been helf inReport Number Investigative Report X Continuation 2008-0728-220916 Page 3 of 3 Supplemental Narrative only areas of smudging were observed. Due to my training and experience the smudging / lack of any observable latent fingerprints on the door knob indicates that the suspect(s) were most likely wearing gloves. I also attempted to obtain latent fingerprints from the DVD player left on the floor near the back door. I only detected two partial prints which appeared to also have been smudged possibly by being handled by gloved hands (see lifted partial latent fingerprints). I provided a statement form to and and requested that they complete it with a complete inventory of stolen items and their value. contacted me on 07/29/08 and I picked up his statement / inventory. According to their property that was stolen included home electronic / entertainment items, firearms / hunting knives, and jewelry with a total value of $10,825.00 (see statement / property section of report). END OF REPORT ScreenshotReport Type: Incident Case No: 2 Offense(s): Commercial Burglary; Theft Victim(s): McDonald's #4 of Metropolis Date: 10/18/2020 On 10/ 18/2020 at approximately 0435 hours I (Ofcer T.J. Woods, MPD #129) responded to 2103 N. Front St., McDonald's #4 of Metropolis, to investigate a burglary/theft. Upon arrival I made contact with Manager Charles Eugene Ford (DOB: 07/22/1979). Ford told me that upon arrival at 4:00am he noticed the back door to the business was unlocked. He said that he contacted the night manager who had closed the store at 1:00am earlier that morning, and she was sure that the door was locked when she left. Ford told me that shortly after he discovered the door of the store's safe standing open and, upon inspection noticed the electronic screen on the front, which displays the passcode input, was shattered and that the ve cash - - r - . deposit bags (containing approximately $10,500 in currency total) Q Q { Cg @ howed me the safe and I observed no other damage than the aforementioned sh . . Ford explained that each of the assistant managers has a unique assigned pass code which opens the main door of the safe only, allowing access to the compartment where the cash register drawers are stored. Ford further explained that as general store managers, he and William Jon Nelson (DOB: 09/01/ 1976) have unique pass codes that allow them to open both the main door and the second interior door allowing access to the compartment where the deposits are stored. Ford told me had had last accessed the interior compartment the day before on October 17, 2020 and was sure the two deposit bags (green in color with a Metropolis Bank logo) were secured inside, and that he left the restaurant at 8:00 pm. Ford said that Nelson last worked on Friday, October 16, 2020 and had not been to the restaurant or accessed the safe since. According to Ford neither he nor Nelson had ever disclosed their pass codes to any other employees, however, with the safe's location that his assistant managers are often in close proximity when they access it and one of their codes could have been compromised. Ford provided the following list of employees who have keys to the restaurant and main door safe passcodes: Ford (himself), Store Manager; Nelson, Store Manager; Vicky R. Landers, Assistant Manager; Laura L. Jones, Assistant Manager; Kristen A. Davis, Assistant Manager; Mary J. Wilson, Assistant Manager; and Angela D. James, Assistant Manager. Ford told me that Regional Manager Samantha Stiegel was on her way and could download the safe access history. Stiegel arrived and downloaded the safe access activity log for the overnight hours of October 17 - 18, 2020. The access log indicated that Store Manager Ford's pass code was entered at 1:39 a.m. on October 18, 2020, which allowed for full access to the safe including the secondary interior compartment where the deposit bags had been stored. Note that there are 24-hour businesses on each side of Mcdonalds #4, Burger King to the North, and Waffle House to the South. INVESTIGATION CONTINUES T.J.
