1. Kylie said? For my topic, I chose to talk about how childhood abuse can cause mental illness in adulthood. To narrow this down I want to focus on the psychological part of the abuse, and how this is carried into the adult life creating new mental illnesses. The research design I want to use is correlational because I want to identify the relationship between childhood trauma, and adulthood mental health issues. I could also use causal-comparative/quasi-experimental because there is a cause and effect, but I want to focus more on the relationship rather than the causes and effects.

Hypothesis:

Psychological trauma during childhood can lead to mental illnesses in adulthood like substance abuse, self-harm, or avoidance.

OR

Childhood trauma significantly increases the chances of the adult developing mental health disorders.

Let me know what you think of my hypotheses, I could not decide which one I liked better. Thanks!

2. Claudia said? I believe that the most appropriate research design for my study would be a longitudinal study. I will be focusing on the study and group of people who suffer from the disorder SeasonalAffective Disorder (SAD). Using the method of longitudinal study will help focus on the specific group of individuals suffering from this disorder and the long-term effects of this disorder. In addition to the method of longitudinal study, this research focuses on a period of weeks and or months which is believed to occur with individuals who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Adding in the IDEA system willallow me to look into the variables over an extended period of time and conclude with my hypothesis. Considering many factors that may play a role in Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I am predicting, that Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is more than just normal emotions and that it is a type of depression that only occurs during certain seasons of the year.
