As of right now, I think the job that I would want to earn is an athletic director and/or coach's position. I think the concept that would be best applied would be ethics. Being ethical in any field is critical, but the example in the book that they used was how coaches can be predators. Sickenly, I have witnessed firsthand how disturbing athletic directors and coaches can be with their students and athletes. The first example that I could use is to not be texting athletes unless it is about a game, workout, etc. I think that it is incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional to be texting your players when it is not about someting important. Another example is one that I have experienced, and it was about pushing athletes farther than they can go. I understand that the whole point of being a coach is to try to push your players to be the best, but sometimes it can be pushed too far. I was working out with the team and my coach wanted me to do a weight that I knew was going to be too much for me. He made me do it, and I ended up straining muscles in my back, which sat me out of games and practices for a week. I insisted to him that it was too much but he did not care. The lesson that can be learned from this is to know when to stop and say enough is enough.
2, I feel that in my future field of possibly going into working as a director of sports programming/media or something close to this, and promotion is a concept that I could apply to this field. Promotion is all about advertising (paid messages conveyed through the media), personal selling (face-to-face presentation in which a seller attempts to persuade a buyer) , publicitiy (media exposure not paid for by the beneficiary), and sales promotion (special activities undertaken to increase sales of a product.) As the director of sports programming at a college or the professional level, there is a large portion that has to do with understanding promotion and what types of things will bring in the most people. For example, in this position, I would do my best to make sure that if there was a big game coming up for my team that we created one of the most intriguing commericals to get fans excited to come. Another example under sales promotion as a director of media would be to create something like, the first 100 to post with a certain hashtag will recieve free tickets to the next game. The more hashtags that are used, the more recognition and awareness that is created for the certain event that we want many people coming to and watching.
