London led the pack with their S/S 23 menswear show, introducing the new trends soon to infiltrate Milan, Paris, and New York. The themes for 2023 are heightened in "male sexiness" and the celebration of hedonism, which seems to be a reoccurring theme. People are eager to separate from the boredom of the pandemic and begin enjoying life again. The key trends for this upcoming season are kidult, refined resort, 70s, sport smart, and soft masculinity. The key colors are dopamine brights, get your greens, luscious red, performance blue, and oxide orange. The prints and graphics include tessellating geos, statement florals, painterly patterns, variegated stripes, and statement graphics. The materials and details are openwork, hypertexture, upcycled, raw edge, and panelling. The key items this upcoming season are the tracksuit, flare trouser, high stance, trench coat, and relaxed suiting. Footwear and accessories include the bucket hat, penny loafer, blanket scarf, not-so-classic, and chunky chains. The key denim styles are patchwork, extreme volume, bootcut, deconstructed, and painterly patterns.

My favorite key trend for this upcoming season is refined resort. This theme focuses on luxury looks with quality fabrics and sophisticated patterns and colors. I love to see fabrics like satin, mulberry silk, chiffon, and charmeuse in resort collections. These are high-quality fabrics that not only look good but also feel good against the skin. They make you feel like booking a trip to Bora Bora or The Cayman Islands. Oscar de la Renta's Resort 2023 collection was my favorite for this upcoming season. It incorporates lots of dopamine brights and floral designs, I love it.

Statement graphics is my top pick for 2023's prints and graphics. They are playful, fun, and bring youthfulness to high fashion. With a statement graphic, you can go high or low regarding the price point and still put together a great fit. One of my favorite luxury designers to do the graphic tee is Kenzo Takada. He doesn't feature slogans on his tees, but he makes a statement with his intricate graphics and bold colors.

As nostalgic as it may sound, the tracksuit and bucket hat are at the top of my list of key items and footwear/accessories. The tracksuit is just one of those sets that I feel will never really go out of style because there are so many ways they can be designed. In London it featured versatility from luxury to 90s throwback, as well as mix-and-match elements. Adidas still designs some of my favorites when it comes to tracksuits; it's a classic in athleisure. Not only were traditional buckets featured in London, but they also showcased more navel takes on the hat such as the knitted style.

Painterly patterns in denim has been standing out to me lately. Hand-painted jeans have been going viral lately, especially amongst HBCUs. Lots of grads have been having their jeans hand painted with their grad year, school colors, mascot, etc. It's been seen all over social media. This trend has trickled over into fast fashion and is now on the runway. I love the personalization and flavor that it can add to a plain pair of jeans. The ripped and distressed jeans are still my favorite; however, this trend has crept into the top three on my list of denim favorites currently.

Overall, the London S/S 23 menswear catwalk seemed like a sight to see. I can't wait to see the other fashion capitals take these trends on the runway. Hopefully one day I can experience it live and in person.
