Rank Resolution Checks/Balances and Separation of Powers Instituted checks and balances and separation of powers to disperse power among the branch of government. Representative Government Created the electoral college and representative government, which were instituted to mitigate majority rule and promote leadership by the political elites. Federalism Created a power-sharing arrangement between the national government and state governments called federalism. Instituting federalism allowed state government to have a level of autonomy while having a strong central government. Bicameral: Two House Legislature Created a bicameral( two house: house of representatives and senate) legislature to appease more populous and less populous states House of Representative (proportional rep)Senate -equal representation for each state Bill of Rights The Bill of Rights was added to the constitution Amendable Constitution A formal amendment process was incorporated Issue Reduce likelihood of accumulation of power by any government institution (president,congress, judiciary). Reduce the likelihood of rule by an uneducated majority or tyranny of the majority/(mob rule). Balance power between the central and state government.
