Nate Baxter is in the agency business and represented 30 players, 25 from the minor league and 5 who are on major league rosters. Josh was one of the minor league players and he needs to hit more home runs to make it to the majors roster next year. He wanted Nate to help him get steroids so he could accomplish that goal. Nate explained to him the risk of his health and violation of baseball rules. Nate tried to assure Josh that the best way to better his hitting was to work with a hitting coach. Josh`s Dad called Nate to try and get him to give the steroids to Josh and if he refuses, he was going terminate the contract between them. Nate ended up losing Josh as a client.

Should Nate consider legal action against the players who have left him for KSM? 3. Should Nate contact the police, the Chicago U.S. attorney's office, or the state or federal legislators about the steroid allegation against KSM? 4. Do you think the actions taken by Jake King to build KSM are the norm in the industry? What would be your response if Jake King were to tell you that to compete in this industry, you must give the athletes what they want or someone else will? 5. What do you think about the athletes and their decisions? What is their role and responsibility in the sports agency business? 6. If you were a partner to Nate, what would be your strategy going forward to retain current clients and to recruit new ones? 7. Do you think Nate should fold his agency business and focus on other career goals?
