1. The brain is a complex organ that is made up of two distinct lobes. Each lobe associates with certain functions that affects an individual's thoughts and behaviors. If one area of the brain experiences traumatic injury, then it could cause difficulties with memory and language. However, through the support of a professional, the damage done through injury could be recovered. The reason why a recovery is possible is because the brain is able to change and adapt by creating new synapses and even birthing new neurons. There is a part of the brain that is responsible "for selective attention, and positive emotions and forming associations in memory". The part of the brain that is responsible for that is the left hemisphere. On the other hand, the right hemisphere is responsible for "arousal, and negative emotions". If you damage the left hemisphere, you may find it hard to move the right side of your body or even have trouble understanding what other are saying to you. Other parts of the brain that could affect behavior is the amygdala. Amygdala allows us to experience emotions. For example, the case of Henry Molaison shows us how damage in the brain can affect cognition and behavior. The 27-year-old man experienced seizures and underwent a "brain surgery to remove his hippocampus and amygdala". After the surgery, H.M's "seizures became much less severe" but he lost his "ability to form many types of new memories". Along with problems of forming new memories, he could not remember new faces, and he was unable to remember events". His case proved how different parts of the brain are responsible for certain cognitive functions. Lastly, another part of the brain that regulates cognitive functions is the hypothalamus. It regulates "body temperature, appetite, and blood pressure". The job of the hypothalamus is to overall balance the autonomic nervous system. In conclusion, our brain consists of many complex parts that affects daily cognitive and behavior functions.

2. I would explain to her that biology and psychology are two fields that highly intersect since the biology of the brain, which plays an instrumental role in the coordination and functioning of different body organs, contains different parts like the prefrontal cortex and nervous system, which control our behaviors. I would use the two parts of the brain, which include the hippocampus and frontal lobe, in explaining to her how they control our cognitive behaviors. For example, the hippocampus, which is an extension of the temporal section of the cerebral cortex in the brain, is major in an individual's learning and memory processing (Spielman et al., 2020). This is through the storage and retrieval of various information as well as the storage of new information. I would explain that our ability to recall the various memories which we have stored in our brain greatly depends on this part. It is usually vulnerable and may be damaged when a person is exposed to a variety of stimuli.

The frontal lobe serves various functions, including decision-making, self-control, and the various personalities that we possess. This is through the intelligence regulation of our thoughts, emotions, and actions by connecting them with the other brain parts. An example that I would use to critically relate biology, behavior, and cognition is the case of Phineas Cage. Gage, who was working as a railroad foreman, suffered from an explosion, and an iron rod blasted a hole in his head and pierced through his skull (Spielman et al., 2020). His personality was noted to have significantly changed after the incident, which could be attributed to the loss of impulse control in the frontal lobe part of the brain. Other studies also established that the pathway between the other brain parts and frontal love could have also been damaged. With this authentic information, I think she will be able to appreciate the high correlation between the biological parts of the brain and our psychological and cognitive behaviors.
