It is stated that "The average income of a member of the Yale Class of '83 is $274,111". This comes from a survey in which Yale grads were asked at a 20 year reunion to list their income. This statistic is being used to show that a Yale education will lead to riches. Find at least one criticism of this statement. 3. Now, consider a situation in which a diet pill is being tested. If I give 100 people a pill, and then see if they loose weight, is that effective? Well, no since I always will need to compare my results against a control group in some way. And if everyone is expecting a diet pill, there may be a non-existent and yet psychological effect in which people think they will be loosing weight, and then will. A common solution in cases like this is to give one group sugar pills, or a placebo. This works for not only diet pills but any sort of medical testing. That way, all groups THINK they are taking medicine, and then you can numerically compare the results of the two groups for an actual comparison. What do you think of this?
