1-What are your career goals? I would like to be able to manage my own company, I want to learn more about record-keeping, timecards, and payroll, business reports, IRS quarterly taxes and general tax deductions. And the same time I would like to improve my customer service skills & people skills since I will be working with employees and growers, I want to build a professional and great work environmental because I strongly believe that if we provide a safe and good work environment to our employees, our team performances will be reflected on the vineyards. We had helped more than 6 companies and provided employment to 50-120 employees. Our team members believe on what we do, and they feel proud to be part of our team so, I want to prepare myself to keep my small business moving forward.
2-What skills do you expect to gain from studying at Walla Walla Community College in the BAS program? How will those skills contribute to your professional career? With over 10-years experience working in vineyard; we at Vineyard Farm Labor are experts in vineyard management ranging from planting, pruning, to harvesting. Now, it is time to learn the other part of the business such as payroll, bookkeeping and business tax. Once I finish the BAS program, I will be able to do payroll, booking, business reports, IRS quarterly taxes for my business. Also, I am going save more money because currently I am paying an accountant to help me with the accounting part of the business, so it will be a win, win, for me as a business owner and as a person because college will provide all the tools that I need to success in the future.
3-What obstacles do you anticipate facing while in the program and how will you overcome those obstacles? I will learn how to balance, life, work, and school at the same time. I have previous college experience so, that will help me to overcome some of those challenges. I am planning to do online classes to be able to do my work and the assignments from home. I planning to work on my assignments from 6:00 am to 11:00 am Monday through Friday. And I can do the regular work after 11:00 am until I finish the tasks. Usually, I work from home, so I have more flexibility. Last year, I had two jobs, I worked as a compliance coordinator for a fruit company, and I was doing payroll and growers reports, and booking for my business. So, now I only have one job and the classes will fit perfect the extra time to complete my day. So, I feel positive about the possible obstacles that I might face while I am taking the BAS program. I am a very organize, and disciplined person, so I will do my best to accomplish this program. Finally, I will leave weekends for my family, I have two daughters, so I will try not to do work or do assignments at least those days.
