Select a large town, city, or metropolitan area you know well and attempt to "read" it's biography through the "text" of its built environment. What districts and neighborhoods are distinctive in terms of their built environment, and why? Are there distinctive architectural landmarks or "signature" structures? What do they symbolize, and to whom? Are there settings that are unique to the place you have selected and, if so, what is it about them that makes them unique?
