1. How might a leader's values increase or decrease their effectiveness as they approach their role? How a leader's value increase his/her effectiveness: -Employees who share the same values with their leaders are more likely to trust their leaders and follow their leader's directions. This will help leaders influence/inspire their employees and also retain employees who share the same values. -Values help provide direction for the team and help identify the strategies that need to be implemented to achieve these values. -Value alignment can also help increase the employee's motivation and productivity. How a leader's value can decrease his/her effectiveness: -If a leader's value is primarily focused on his own interest, or involves bias and prejudice, it can lead to decisions that benefit himself rather than the company. Thus a good leader's values should be able to bring the benefit to the whole organization, so employees can have a shared goal to work towards. -It is important for leaders to effectively communicate and clarify their values for these values to positively affect the company. 2. How might a leader's emotional intelligence increase or decrease their effectiveness in a leadership role? How emotional intelligence increases effectiveness: -Leaders who can empathize and relate to their employees will help their employees feel supported. This will motivate the employees to work harder and be more passionate about their job. Employees will perform better when their wellbeing needs are met. -A leader will always have to deal with tough situations/conversations. A leader with high emotional intelligence can manage conflicts and be aware of their employees' feelings and ensure that their voices are heard. This will help build a safe culture of feedback that will help employees to grow and improve team's dynamics/relationships. How emotional intelligence can decrease effectiveness: -If a leader has poor communication skills, they might struggle to communicate effectively within the team, and thus lead to misunderstandings and decreased effectiveness. -A leader who is unable to manage his/her emotions can negatively affect the team's morale. -If a leader lacks empathy, that might make the employees feel uncaring. When the team doesn't have the support needed, either in career or in work-life balance, it decreases their effectiveness as the company may face retention issues or unmotivated employees.
