$2.$ Financial aspects are one of the important concerns regarding a laboratory section supervisor. Explain how you would decide whether a test should be performed in the laboratory $($test cost analysis$)$ or sent to a reference laboratory. Discuss the process that is used when a new instrument needs to be obtained or purchased. What are some of the factors that need to be considered in making the final decision? How would you manage the inventory for the reagents needed for the procedure$/$instrument$?$

$3.$ Safety$/$quality considerations are very important in the laboratory. What safety guidelines are necessary for a clinical laboratory? What must be done to maintain the safety of the worker as well as have quality results? What are some of the types of processes that are used to insure that quality results are being reported?

$4.$ One of the duties of a laboratory supervisor is to schedule employees. As laboratory manager, you need to staff employees for $24$ hours a day, $365$ days a year. For the evening shift of your facility, you have $7$ employees for laboratory testing. Prepare a two week schedule for these employees. The only restriction that you have is that the employees must work every other Saturday and Sunday for $(1)/(2)$ staff. You determine if the employee should work in only one department or more than one department. You may also have flexible hours. Discuss what factors contributed to your decisions for the final schedule. How would you manage employee vacations and holidays and sick time? The policy that you choose will be facility wide. Please use specific examples when discussing your answer.

$5.$ You are a new section supervisor. There are many management styles that a supervisor may use. From the examples in the book, discuss the management style that you would use and determine how you would be a leader and a motivator of your employees. Discuss what management style and motivational techniques that would be the least likely that you would use.

$7.$ Evaluation of employees is very important. Discuss the role of the job description and how this is used in the evaluation of an employee. How may competency testing and proficiency testing be used in the evaluation of an employee? How would you evaluate an employee for a merit raise?
