1 You are to develop a safety management plan using chemicals in the nursery or its surrounding area.

As part of your safety management plan you are to also develop organisational procedures in relation to how the nursery should respond in the event of an incident such as a spill, overspray, and personal contamination.

In all cases you need to highlight the safety and regulatory issues and control measures that must be considered for the treatment activity. This should cover both human and environmental concerns i.e. how you will minimise the potential for short- and medium-term harm to water ways, neighbouring properties and native fauna / flora.

Ensure you include reference to the relevant OHS legislation / codes of practice and SDS / product label\, off label permits including handling, storage, application and emergency response.

If there is the potential for human contact, indicate the risk factors relating to the possible routes the chemicals could take to enter the body and what steps you take to minimise that potential.

If you nominate PPE for the applicator (and others if relevant) indicate the type chosen and the source of information that recommended that PPE.

Describe your emergency response procedures including how you notify the relevant agencies.

Ensure you describe how you will dispose / remove waste and carry out any decontamination.

What records do you keep and what steps do you take to monitor the safety measures?

This should include reference to any residue effects as well as any biological and environmental influences including seepage and withholding periods.

Describe how you will apply risk management techniques to ensure the hazards associated with chemical use are controlled.

NOTE

If you have successfully completed AHCWHS502 and your assessment activity included task 1 - 9 for the use of chemical in the nursery, that safety plan can be resubmitted for this task. However, make sure that you have included all of the above key points.
