1- You have just started a teaching position in Brazil and you are about to develop a lesson plan for the class you teach next week. You held a brief,15-minute introductory session with your students but still know very little about them. Before choosing which topics to discuss in class, you should:

a.write out all of the business English topics you can think of and then select the topics that you feel your students would enjoy learning most.

b.find out why your students are studying business English and what they hope to accomplish in the course. From this you can determine what type of topics they would be interested in and what specific business English skills your students need to learn to accomplish their goals.

c.look on the Internet and read some books to come up with a list of business English topics you think Brazilian students might be interested in, then choose a new topic each week from this list. Ensure that you have a variety of topics to teach so that you cover all of the major themes.

d.teach your students a wide variety of topics so that they are exposed to a broad sample of business English concepts. Although your students may not specifically need to learn some of the topics you cover in the class, at least they will have a general grasp of each topic in case they encounter it in the future.

2- A colleague has called in sick and you have offered to cover her business English class for the day. She leaves you with a lesson plan to follow for the class. Getting started on the lesson after a brief introduction, you go through each activity with her students, but you notice that they aren't interested in discussing any of the material. After you slowly complete the lesson, you still have 30 minutes to spare. Thinking of what to do on the spot can sometimes be difficult. Which of the following choices would be the best use of the remaining time?

a.End the class early as the students are uninterested in today's lesson and they probably have more important work to do anyway.

b.Re-teach a previous lesson that connects to the material you have just taught to reinforce the concepts.

c.Ask the students what homework they were given in the previous class. If it is a topic you are familiar with, take up the homework with your students. Be sure to let your colleague know you did this.

d.Play a game with the students to fill the remaining time and encourage active discussion and participation.
