10 employees of a restaurant are walking down the street in the same neighborhood as the restaurant. The restaurant is in the process of transforming its business strategy to make itself more appealing to customers. The economy in the community is unstable (there are many residents in search of blue-collar/low-skill jobs). As a result, it is a challenge to convince people who DO have money to spend their available income at a restaurant. In order to deal with the situation, the restaurant's owner conducted a survey of the community.
Due to the results of the community survey, the restaurant owner concludes that, while the food already being served at the restaurant is generally popular with existing customers, the restaurants financial situation will be greatly improved (i.e., new customers will be attracted to the restaurant) by adding and incorporating many more meat-based dishes on the menu, eliminating all alcohol options, adding in-person dining (instead of just take-out/take-away), significantly reducing dairy-based dishes, and making diners feel more welcome when they enter the restaurant and are waiting to be seated. Even better, these changes won't result in a significant loss of existing customers. So, although the owner is not sure about the *precise* amount of money that the restaurant will gain from the changes, it is still very important to the owner (and restaurant) that the changes be made. The owner is in the process of making the changes and announced the strategy to all of the employees earlier that day.
Anyway, it is now late at night, the restaurant is closed, and the 10 employees are bored. They stop in front of the restaurant and someone suggests breaking into the restaurant in order to have a dance party. The employees all enjoy dance parties, but also know that after-hours gatherings at the restaurant are a violation of company policy. A short description of each employee is presented below:
A. Valeria, an award winning chef of vegan cuisine
B. Hector, a dishwasher
C. Miguel, whose family runs a fleet of fishing ships
D. Lucia, an attractive former trainer of flight attendants
E. Pierre, a world class fromager
F. Esteban, a plumber
G. Veronica, a high-level sommelier with 25 years of experience
H. Rachel, a janitor
I. Lisa, a cashier
J. Richard, an accountant with an MBA from Harvard University
A. Given what you know about the resource dependence model, sources of power, consequences of power, and the restaurant's new strategy, tell me TWO employees who are likely to risk having a party in restaurant facilities after-hours and explain why you believe these employees are more willing to take on the risk.
B. Given what you know about the resource dependence model, sources of power, consequences of power, and the restaurant's new strategy, tell me TWO employees who are UNlikely to risk having a party in restaurant facilities after-hours and explain why you believe these employees are unwilling to take on the risk.
