10-2 Research Interview Styles Use Your Career Network for Research. Contact at least two companies in your field that are similar to your target employer and arrange a brief meeting with someone at each place to research his or her interview style. Make sure the person understands that this is not a request for an interview. Follow the guidelines for conducting a Career Network meeting in Chapter 6, as well as these steps. 1. During your meetings, ask your contacts to describe the style of interviewing they use to evaluate candidates for positions similar to the one you are targeting. 2. Ask what criteria (skills, experience, education, personal qualities) they use to evaluate candidates. 3. Ask for specific examples of candidates' positive and negative actions and comments. 4. Take notes of any information you find useful. 5. As always, act professionally and thank the people who help you. Follow up by sending thank-you notes.
