They are about the price that China is now paying as a consequence of the government's quest and policy of "economic growth at all costs." To watch these videos is really eye opening and make you realized that in spite of all the progress that China. These video shows how essentially China is sacrificing the natural environment for the sake of economic growth. Even though many experts believe China is on its way to become a world super power, there are still many problems China is dealing with which would indicate that all is not right in China.

Watch the videos below and consider the following:

  • As you watch these videos about China, consider the ways in which growth has won out against the natural world and its own people.
  • China shows a particularly ugly part of its economic development. What are these "ugly parts"?
  • How is China viewed by world-wide organizations, such as the World Bank, with regard to pollution, particularly air quality. What is the most polluted city in China and why.
  • There are many people who are adversely impacted by the widespread pollution in China. Does the government listen to their complaints? Is it sensitive to the needs of those impacted? What are some ways the public's health in China is being impacted?
