Purpose: To observe how the speed changes for an object that is accelerating. To draw a position - time graph and a velocity - time graph of an accelerating object. Materials: - Ramp recording timer Dynamics cart 2 m of ticker tape 1.2m Procedure: 1. Set up a ramp so that the dynamics cart will accelerate as it moves down the slope. 2. Attach a piece of ticker tape to the cart and thread it through the timer. 3. Turn on the recording timer and release the cart. 4. Tape analysis: a) Draw a line through the first dot on the ticker tape that can be clearly distinguished. b) Count six dots and draw a line through the sixth dot. Continue to do this for the remainder of the tape. (every six dots represents 0.1 s) c) Measure the distance from the first line and record your distances in the chart below.
