(1.1.4 {1.1.5 One of your clients, Frederika, consults with you. She tells you that she was robbed at gunpoint by two men two days ago. They threatened to shoot her if she did not comply with their demands. They took her handbag and mobile phone, leaving her traumatised ever since. She informs you that the two men have been arrested and charged with the criminal offence of robbery but she wants more clarity from you on some of the legal principles that govern robbery as an offence. Advise Frederika on the following: {1.1.4.1 What requirements need to meet in order for threats of violence to lead to a conviction for the crime of robbery. {1.1.4.2 Assume for this question only that the two men just snatched Frederika's handbag off her shoulder quickly and unexpectedly. Frederika tried to grab the strap of her handbag and hold on, but she eventually let go when one of the men threw an empty glass bottle at her and ran away with her handbag while Frederika was walking in a shopping centre. Explain whether the two men would be convicted for robbery or not for bag- snatching. Denise is the Campus Head of Excellence University. One morning while walking to her office, Denise happens to see a well-known lecturer, Mary, and a student, Harry, engaging in a very serious conversation. Denise knows that Harry is generally a poor- performing student who always fails his assessments, never attends classes and he is repeating Mary's module for a third time. To Denise, it sounds like Harry is telling Mary that he wants a distinction for Mary's module and he has something to offer Mary in return for this. Denise then sees Harry giving Mary (disguised in a file) R (9 O)
