I'his question requires a full written solution. A gardener wishes to fence off 18 equal rectangular plots next to a long wall. They have a total of 224 metres of fencing available. Assume the plots are to be constructed as shown in the diagram below, where the wall (in solid grey) is at the top, and the thin solid lines indicate sides where fencing is used. Note that the plots at the bottom have no fencing on the bottom side. The dimensions x and y of the whole enclosure are indicated by the dotted lines. If A represents the total area enclosed by all the plots, find the maximum value of A. Make sure to justify your answer fully using the methods taught in this course.
