1:34 OCD ca...study 4G Case Study 3 - Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) Sonya is a 17-year-old female who has been recently diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. She is studying for her A-levels at a sixth form college. She has always performed very well academically and would like to go to university. Sonya takes a very perfectionist attitude towards her studies. She spends a long time arranging her stationery on the desk before she starts her work and if she makes a mistake then she starts the whole thing again. She is spending increasing amounts of time doing her college work so that it is just right' and as a consequence she is often up at night working and so is not getting enough sleep. Sonya has been very reluctant to talk to anyone and to seek her help and she still finds it very difficult to talk about the problems she is experiencing. She has had a number of panic attacks during her A-level mock exams. These have resulted in her parents and teachers becoming very worried about her and they have persuaded her to speak to her GP who has since referred her to CAMHS. She had to wait some time for an appointment and diagnosis and in this time she has become more withdrawn and anxious. When Sonya has expressed her feelings she has spoken about a number of unpleasant thoughts in her head which are causing her a lot of distress including thoughts about the death of her loved ones. Consider the following when evaluating Sonya's case: a) Describe what changes have occurred in UK mental health legislation and how this can improve or impair the person in the case study. b) Provide example of inclusion and exclusion on the case study for the chosen mental disorder. c) Make recommendations on future improvements to mental health provision and to the service user in the case study.
